To Lady E. A
naked before my gaze, her dear mouth stopped
silent, expectant: from my trembling hands
her silver necklace torn, all wrappings dropped,
her beauty fills my heart: her lovely shape,
trim head, slim neck, and shoulders sweetly curved,
her rich round belly, tempting men to rape,
her fullness – ah! with hope I'm quite unnerved….
Alas, alas! Next morn I know the end
of all these raptures: rising from the bed
in pain I groan, I stagger as I wend
my shaky way to bathroom, clutch my head.
Ethyl my dear, with you no more I'll sup:
with such hangovers, I must give you up.
