To the critics of
monocled devotees of Galatea,
rough peasants greet a stranger coming near
like howling dogs and give a brutal treat.
One scholar rigid and the other fit
with sharpened teeth, all suddenly appear
(harsh critics, if not pygmies) from the rear
with venom spilled on Cyclops in the heat.
Despite the light above his head, they smear
and blacken him, he chiefly doesn’t mind
but gives a few bold words to make it clear:
“Ah, all these pedants”, he relies in kind,
“who want new light from a new hemisphere
should utter their complaints to my behind”.

De los que censuraron su "Polifemo"
Pisу las calles de Madrid el fiero
monуculo galбn de Galatea,
y cual suele tejer bбrbara aldea
soga de gozques contra forastero,
rнgido un bachiller, otro severo
(crнtica turba al fin, si no pigmea)
