Lonely
_________________________________
“Don’t go home alone, nobody knows how lonely the road is”
……………………………………….English tongue-twister
to go alone along an empty street
to stay alone – the tram has come and gone
to smoke alone, remembering the deeds,
that you have done – but still alone
enjoying vine of smiles of passers-by
you stood alone with no thoughts in mind
but for the feeling (old) of passing time
that isn’t yours you often tried to reach
but failed to grasp and then your own speech
is faster than your mind
it breaks you down
it makes you think alone at empty streets –
“this silly spring, this awful time to try
my luck again” and from the other side
I smiled at you – you didn’t see my smile
I crossed the street I was a looser too
alone like you – “Well…will you give a light?”
and then you smiled at me that pitiable smile
of someone saved and was the greatest prize
for me your hardly audible “Thank you”
