Dear Speaker Nancy Pelosi She has been in a wheel hair diagnosed with severe neuromuscular scoliosis due to Werdnig-Hoffmann muscular atrophy since she was two years old. Recently, problems with her spine started deteriorating rapidly. If no proper surgery is done, doctors say, she is going to die. Since such kinds of surgeries are not available in Russia, doctors in Finland agreed to perform this surgery for 42,000 Euro. Mrs. Mikhailova asked for help to all sorts of government agencies including Russian President Administration, St.Petersburg City and Leningrad Region Governors’ Offices. However, she didn’t get any meaningful response from them. Local channel of the Russian Television made a story about Mrs. Mikhailova (the story can be found on proza.ru). Nevertheless, heads of the above mentioned agencies remained deaf to the woman’s problem. In a joint effort, we, fellow writers, from proza.ru collected almost half of the surgery’s cost. We appealed to Russian President Administration and St. Petersburg City and Leningrad Region Governors’ Offices with a letter as well. However, there was no response. In the hope of availability of state funding for such kinds of needs, I’m appealing to you with a request to have the spinal surgery performed on Mrs. Mikhailova here in the United States. I’m also sending to you Mrs. The reason why I decided to ask you, esteemed Nancy Pelosi, for help is that I know about your kind heartedness and thoughtfulness to citizens’ requests from my own personal experience. Several years ago, at one of the meetings with San Francisco residents, I handed you my letter asking to assist my friend, who was refused American visa twice by the U.S. Consulate in St. Petersburg, in coming to the U.S. to visit me. You resolved this problem in just a few days. I sincerely hope that this very letter will get your careful attention.
