The Mouse and the Trap

A little mouse, with whiskers twitching,
Saw a trap, a deadly itching,
Set by the farmer, cruel and sly,
To catch her kind, and make mice die.

She told the hen, 'A trap is near,
It's set for us, we must take care!'
The hen replied, 'It's not my plight,
You're on your own, you little mite!'

The sheep she told, 'The trap is there,
It's meant for mice, beyond compare!'
The sheep just bleated, 'Don't you see,
It's not my problem, it's for thee!'

The cow she told, 'The trap is set,
For mice alone, I'm not in debt!'
The cow just mooed, 'It's not my fight,
You're on your own, day and night!'

The mouse, she watched, with heart so sore,
As fate unfolded, evermore.
By wretched match, a snake, it fell, into the trap,
And bit the farmer's wife, a cruel mishap.

To cure her ill, the hen was slain,
Her broth, a remedy, to ease the pain.
The sheep, they slaughtered, fat and plump,
To feed the guests who came to jump
And comfort the poor farmer's wife,
Who'd lost her health, and nearly lost her life.

The cow was butchered, fat and strong,
To feed the mourners, all day long.
The mouse she watched, from her small hole,
And thought of things, beyond control.

So heed the lesson, learn it well,
What doesn't touch you, can strike like hell.
Don't turn your back, on trouble's call,
For what affects one, affects us all.

If you think something doesn't concern you,
Remember, the world has a twisted view.
