Time s wily Chargers will not wait by Emily Dickin

Нед,

Лихим Коням Годин - не ждать
Лишь при вратах Скорбей,-
Влетев же - щерясь, лишь стоять,
Не сдвинешь, бей не бей...

                Дик,
                Джим.

[About 1879, in pencil, sent to Ned Dickinson when
he would have been about eighteen, headed "Ned" and
signed "Dick" and "Jim" (h b45). The verses may
have been sent after the horses Dick and Jim had run away
with Ned, as his sister Martha Bianchi suggested.
As Letters (1958) noted, the verses would be more
appropriate to an occasion when Ned could not extricate
himself from a funeral procession even by whipping up the horses.
The specific occasion remains unknown.]

Time's wily Chargers will not wait by Emily Dickinson

Ned,

Time's wily Chargers will not wait
At any Gate but Woe's --
But there -- so gloat to hesitate
They will not stir for blows --

                Dick,
                Jim.
